
TONGA – Four suspects were arrested for dagga possession during a door-to-door campaign at Naas Township on Sunday.
The campaign, conducted by Tonga local police together with members from the department of Safety and Security liaison, was aimed at educating residents about the dangers of crime.
Victims of crime were identified and a number of concerns such as house robberies, sexual assault and were raised by community members during the campaign.
During the campaign, the police received a tip-off that led them in arresting the suspects. These suspects are to appear to the Nkomazi Magistrate Court on Wednesday.
“We will make it our priority that we tackle the crime happening in the township and we appeal to the community to be able to speak out and work with the police at all times and help us fight crime.” said the acting station commander Col Bhutane Sibiya.
He further commended the residents who assisted during the campaign and encouraged the Community Policing Forum members to inform them when the come across any certain type of crime.
