Cash in transit foiled in Mpumalanga

The guards returned fire and the suspects fled the scene.

MARITI – Fidelity security guards were involved in a shoot-out with suspects who attempted a heist in Mariti, just outside Bushbuckridge, on Thursday morning.

The cash-in-transit vehicle had just collected money from its branch to load into ATMs in Bushbuckridge when two Golf GTIs and an Audi overtook the escort vehicle and the cash-in-transit vehicles at 05:00.

The occupants opened fire on the Fidelity vehicles.

The guards returned fire and the suspects fled the scene. No one was wounded and no money were taken.

The police are investigating a case of an attempted cash-in-transit heist and are appealing to the members of the community to come with information which might lead to the arrest of the suspects.
