Deputy minister urges offenders to empower themselves
”We are committed to establishing projects that will play a vital role in eradicating poverty in the community"

BARBERTON – Deputy minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Mr Andries Nel urged offenders to make use of every opportunity that the department offered them to empower themselves.
He indicated that yesterday at the Barberton Farm Prison during the handing over ceremony of agricultural land to Umjindi Local Municipality.
Mpumalanga News learnt that handing over the land will assist to eradicate poverty and create job opportunities for young people.
”Offenders must not undermine the hand work skills that the department offers them. I believe such skills will help them to better their lives,“ he said.
He also alluded that his department, in collaboration with the department of correctional services, is committed to establish projects that will assist young people to eradicate poverty in society.
”We are committed to establishing projects that will play a vital role in eradicating poverty in the community. We are going to do that in all the local municipalities and metros all over the country,“ said Nel.
