Councillor’s death mourned by all and sundry

The community of Steenbok and Nkomazi woke up to disheartening news of the passing of their former councillor, Levie Sambo.

STEENBOK – Sambo died in an head-on collision near the bridge at Hoyi while on his way home.

The speaker of the Nkomazi Local Municipality, Cllr Jackie Macie has expressed his heartfelt condolences and spoke of Sambo’s great contributions to council.

“We have suffered a great loss, both in the municipality and the ANC. Sambo was a seasoned member of the organisation and very active at that. A number of projects were accomplished under his leadership. He has proven to be a dedicated people’s person until his day of death.”

According to Macie, the Ngwenyeni reservoir upgrade was but one of the many great projects to be completed under Sambo’s leadership.

“He has worked tirelessly for his people. Mentioning all the work that was done under his leadership will take up the whole day, but it would be a mistake on my end not to mention one of the biggest and most successful projects he has been involved in.

This was the RDP project of 1 000 housing units in Steenbok. His people loved him, although there were some disagreements, but I have worked with him since 2006, and I can attest to the fact that everyone appreciated his leadership,” Macie added.

Sambo was a man of many talents which all comprised serving the people. He has been a teacher since in the 90s until the day of his death.

“My brother’s love for the people has always been eminent. We are not surprised by the support we are getting from the people in this time of sadness. He basically worked his entire life serving the people.

From being a teacher in Sambo Primary School, to being involved in the ANC, I totally understand the great loss that has hit all of us,” said his brother, Judah Sambo.

The memorial service will take place today at Steenbok Emmanuel Assemblies, and the public is invited to come and celebrate a life well lived.

“We want to honour and pay tribute to my brother in the best way we know how. The service will start at 13:00, and we invite the people to attend. We appreciate the support shown to us as a family, it’s really heart-warming to know that we are not alone,” he concluded.

Sambo will be buried in Steenbok, on Saturday, more details will be communicated during his memorial service today.
