Community up in arms over tenders

We tried to approach the mayor, Cllr Sibusiso Mathonsi only to find out that it was a waste of time as councillors also did not bother to attend the meeting.

KANYAMAZANE – Disgruntled community members are up in arms in this sprawling township by barricading all entrances and exits, burning tyres in protest over a road tender gone awry.

The community’s tempers flared after their meeting with the Mbombela Local Municipality didn’t go according to their expectations.

They have stated that the community is not happy with the tender issuing procedure that has been used in hiring people for a tender for a road construction which includes the appointment of Mr Duma Mlambo who is a CLO of the tender.

In an exclusive interview with coordinator of the Kanyamazane Community Forum, Mr Magnificent Thabethe, he said:

“We are sick and tired of not being taken seriously by our municipality.

We tried to approach the mayor, Cllr Sibusiso Mathonsi only to find out that it was a waste of time as councillors also did not bother to attend the meeting.

So we the residents decided to close roads with rocks and burning tyres because it seems like protesting is the only language that is understood better by our leaders, so let it be.”

The residents have barricaded the N4 road that connects Kanyamazane and Matsulu up to Malalane – they have vowed that no motorists will be able to use the N4 until they are attended to by Mathonsi.
