Heist suspects still at large

Ten robbery suspects are still on the loose in the province after attacking a G4S armoured vehicle near the Swazi and Mozambican border.

Mbombela – According to police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, the incident occurred on the road between Buffelspruit and Malalane on Tuesday morning.

“Two G4S security personnel were coming from collecting money at a certain shop at Schoemansdal. While on their way towards Malalane, they were attacked by the heavily armed suspects, whose faces were covered with balaclavas and were seen driving in a silver Mazda5 CX7 and blue Ford Ranger,” said Mohlala.

Mohlala added that the guards were then disarmed, forced out of the vehicle and suddenly their vehicle was blasted twice.

“The suspects then took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene. Both getaway vehicles, the Mazda CX7, which appears to have been robbed at Edenvale, and the Ford Ranger Club cab, were found abandoned in a sugar cane field,” he said.

“No arrests were made and the guards escaped with no injuries,” said Mohlala.
