11 arrested for causing public violence

Four of the arrested suspects had already appeared in court while the other seven will appear before the Waterval Boven Periodic Court today.

WATERVAL BOVEN – Police arrested 11 residents of Waterval Boven in connection with public violence .

This comes after a number of government facilities including a community hall, fire departments, a clinic and municipal offices were burnt down during the continuing service delivery protest which began on January 6.

Sgt Gerald Sedibe also confirmed that a murder case was opened following the death of a 21 year old man who was apparently shot by members of the South African Police Services  during the strike. “The matter has been handed over the Independent Police Investigation Directorate (Ipid) for further investigation, “said Sedibe.

Sedibe added that four of the arrested suspects had already appeared in court while the other seven will appear before the Waterval Boven Periodic Court today.
