Schools should be drugfree zones – Shongwe
Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe says in order for effective learning and teaching to take place, schools should become crime free zones.

MBOMBELA – According to Shongwe, learners should be disciplined and should always ensure that they are at school on time so they are able to perform well academically.

His visit was part of the annual Back to School Programme by the Department of Education whereby public representatives visit various schools across the province.
“Do not let alcohol and drugs distract you from your studies. You should listen to your parents and teachers and focus on your studies so that you can become future community builders,” said Shongwe.
He went on to bemoan growing teenage pregnancy in some of the schools saying that children should abstain from sexual activities because their future become adversely affected as most of the pregnant learners later drop out of school.
