Eleven traffic officers arrested for corruption

The officers will appear before the Nelspruit Magistrate's Court today.

MBOMBELA Eleven traffic officers arrested over the weekend by members of the Serious Crime Investigation Unit and Hawks, will appear in the Nelspruit Magistrate Court today.

They have been charged with corruption and defeating the ends of justice. Investigations in the matter still continues.

Eight were arrested on Saturday and the three on Sunday from various areas in the province. According to provincial Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Dineo Sekgotodi, Hawks members were acting on information that there were traffic officers who were involved in corrupt activities.

“An operation was subsequently launched. Some of the officers were arrested at their homes, while others were brought in by their lawyers,”she said.
The officers are aged between 29 and 51 years.
