ZWELISHA – Community members are outraged over an unattended dump site, which is causing a bad odour in the area.

They feel that the municipality has abandoned them, arguing that it has not even looked into their grievances, which include the fixing of their roads.

Speaking to Mpumalanga News, community members said they feared for their lives since the unattended dump site posed health risks.
“We have raised this matter with our ward councillor on numerous occasions but nothing has materialised over the years. Our area has been abandoned and we do not understand why they are doing this to us,” a resident, Mr Eliot Siboza, said.

“We even have to burn the rubbish almost every day because it smells so bad. Whenever there are community meetings, we always mention this to relevant authorities but nothing is being done,” Siboza added.

The heavy rain that of the past month has damaged the road making it difficult for motorists to use.

Community members say this matter has also not been attended to. Means to get comment from the Mbombela Local Municipality proved fruitless.
