Some voters sent back without voting

Some left the station very excited to have taken part in municipal elections, while a few were sent back without voting after their names were not found on the voters roll.

MSHOLOZI – Hundreds of voters from Msholozi village on the outskirts of White River and Mbombela came in their numbers to cast their votes this morning.

Both old and first-time voters started queuing from as early 06.30.

Some left the station very excited to have taken part in municipal elections, while a few were sent back without voting after their names were not found on the voters roll.

“I am very sad that I couldn’t practise my democratic right to vote because I was told by IEC officials that I have to go and vote where I registered years ago before relocating here.
I am surpriseds how my name is not appearing here because I voted in this station before,” says Gogo Nydzambose Nkosi.

A high presence of police officers patrolling around the area was also visible.
“We were here earlier than anyone else, to do what we call explosives sweeping to make sure the area is free of any possible explosives. Some of us voted here as well,” says a police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
