Police educate kids about dangers of taking drugs

KANYAMAZANE – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), in collaboration with the local police, conducted an awareness campaign to educate pupils at ZB Kunene Secondary about the dangers of taking drugs.
Speaking to this publication, spokesperson for the local police, W/O Andries Skwambane said this campaign targets grade-10 pupils.
“This time around, we are only targeting grade 10 schoolchildren because they are the ones who are involved in incidents of taking drugs and smuggling dagga into school.
“We are also educating them about the disadvantages of criminal records.
“Some of them end up doing bad things like filming porn movies, and when they are sober they don’t remember anything.
“In order for us to win this battle and to uproot illegal activities at school premises, we need support from parents.
“They must keep an eye on their children, and have a good relationship with them so they can speak out when they are being abused,” he said.

Some of the illegal items that are usually found by police when conducting random searches at schools are dagga, dangerous weapons, cellphones and make-up.
