MBOMBELA – Two Mozambican officials were arrested on Tuesday at the Nkomazi Tollgate for the possession of drugs worth over R10 million.

The arrest comes after the vehicle of the accused aged 33 and 38 was stopped and searched by the Police Dog Unit to which the dogs reacted. They were then summoned to the police station for an authentic search where drugs were discovered in different compartments of the vehicle.

MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr Vusi Shongwe commended the police for their commitment in combating crime in the province stating that working hard in the fight against crime, fraud and corruption is government’s priority. “Drug dealers should be rooted out because they destroy the lives of our future leaders and by speedily prosecuting the culprits, communities will continue to have faith in law enforcement agencies,” said Shongwe.

The accused appeared at the Kaapmuiden Periodical Court yesterday on charges of drug dealing.
