MEC Shongwe launches ploughing season

The provincial government launched the food security flagship programme in 2005/6, in order to intervene in the rural periphery areas to fight hunger and poverty through supporting farmers with production inputs and mechanization.

KABOKWENI- The MEC for Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs Mr Vusi Shongwe will today officially launch the provincial ploughing season.

This will take place at the Nsikazi Stadium as part of Masibuyele
Emasimini (ME) programme.

The provincial government launched the food security flagship
programme in 2005/6, in order to intervene in the rural periphery areas to fight hunger and poverty through supporting farmers with production inputs and mechanization.

Shongwe will also hand over tractors to be utilized in those households whose land is lying fallow, with an aim to encourage them to participate in agriculture through tilling their fields, or backyard gardens.
