Residents accuse foreign shopkeepers of using young girls

"As residents, we suspect that they are targeting those who come from disadvantaged family backgrounds."

KANYAMAZANE – Community members of Ntokozweni raised a serious concern regarding the behaviour of foreign shopkeepers.

They are accused of abusing young girls sexually and give them sweets.

This was revealed during the Count me in 365 days of no violence and abuse against migrant and refugees women held at the community hall that was hosted by Foundation for Human Rights.

According to one of the community members, Ms Nompilo Shungube * (Not her real name) one of the local foreign shopkeepers who is a Pakistani, was having an affair with a 13-year-old girl and has slept with her in exchange of a 10 kg maize meal.

“We don’t have a problem with the foreign nationals, but we don’t like their conduct. They are dating our children, some of them are still young and they don’t know anything about love.As residents, we suspect that they are targeting those who come from disadvantaged family backgrounds,” she said.
