Update: 19 learners killed in horrific bus accident

Seven of the school kids sustained severe injuries as a result of the fire and collision and were rushed to Kwamhlanga Hospital.

A 22 bus seater ferrying learners has collided with a truck near Verena on Bronkorspruit turnoff, both vehicles caught  fire.

Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Pat Ngomane has sent condolences to the families of the nineteen school children and a bus driver who have just lost their lives in a head on collision between a bus and truck on R25 road between Bronkorspruit and Verina on Friday.

According to reports the school bus was turning in an intersection when the truck hit it and fire started to burn all over. Both the bus and truck caught fire however the truck driver survived the scene. Seven of the school kids sustained severe injuries as a result of the fire and collision and were rushed to Kwamhlanga Hospital.

The MEC sends condolences to the families of the deceased and wish a speedy recovery to those injured. He says this is really a sad day for Mpumalanga and South Africa as a whole. Ngomane says road accidents are killing the future of our country. He says we need to come together in making sure that we reduce road fatalities.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
