Residents of Emavaheni protest over allocation of houses

They say the houses were unfairly allocated.

The community members of Emavaheni near Zamamokuhle took to the streets over the allocation of RDP houses on Friday.They say the houses were unfairly allocated.

Residents were marching to Kwazamokuhle to meet MEC of human settlements, Mr Speedy Mashilo, to raise their grievances.

Mashilo is in the area for the official handover event of RDP houses.

The protesters said that the beneficiaries who received the houses were not locals.

We want houses too, but they are allocated to people who are not from Emavaheni

Some community members handed over proof of application for RDP houses to the MEC.

Mashilio said he would inform the mayor of Steve Tshwete Local Municipality, Mike Masina.

“I will inform him about your grievances and he will address the issues.”
