Silulumanzi employees on strike
The employees vowed not to return to work if their demands are not addressed.

MBOMBELA – Employees from Silulumanzi, a company dealing with water supply and sewage systems around Mbombela and surroundings, downed their tools this morning and embarked on a protest complaining about salary increment.
The employees from Matsulu, Lekazi and Mbombela said they have been complaining for about three months now, yet not even a single concern they raised has been attended to.

They abandoned their jobs and march on the streets of Mbombela straight to the offices of the company where they delivered the list of their grievances.
Among other things, they are complaining about includes the issue of the grading system used by the company to pay them, issues of racial segregation in paying salaries, where they are claiming that white people continue to get big salaries compared to black employees even when doing same job. They also want the company to recognise their qualifications and experience when paying their salaries.

The spokesperson from Silulumanzi, Mr Richmond Jele said negotiations are still in progress between the employees and the employer. Jele said there is no need to panic for residents as all their water pumps and sewage systems are working properly. “We have a stand-by team which is ready to assist in case of emergency,” he assured.
The employees vowed not to return to work if their demands are not addressed. Negotiations are still in progress at the company premises in Mbombela.
