Ehlanzeni ANCWL are enough of male chauvinists

They said that the briefing signalled an end of an era of intimidation and fear of the men of the province who are used to dictate to them as to who to elect in leadership positions.

The ANC Women League (ANCWL) in Ehlanzeni region is rallying behind Peter Nyoni to be the next chairperson of the ANC in the province.

This was heard during a media briefing held at the Nelspruit Protea Hotel this morning.

“We strongly believe that he is the person that can unite the ANC and lead the renewal of the ANC in the province. His determination to assist the ANC deal with factionalism, gate keeping and slate politics makes him the people’s choice and our choice as well,” says Ms Precious Manana, a member of Regional Executive Committee Ehlanzeni Region

“We strongly believe Nyoni will be able to bring about the kind of change we need and will go a long way in supporting the women’s league carry its programs effectively,” she added.

They added that the tendency of handpicked leadership by men deprives the women the right to choose a candidate of their own choice, whom they believe would effectively serve the interests of the community, women in particular.

Manana also announced that the women’s league in the province collapsed after the death of its former chairperson, the late Mam Letta Shongwe.

She said that after extensive consultation with members of the ANCWL, they nominate Ms Busi Shiba as the chairperson of the ANCWL in the province. Her deputy will be Ms Jesta Sidel and the deputy secretary to be Ms Refilwe Mtsweni.</block

“We are lobbying and persuading all other regions to give consideration to the elected candidates who in our humble opinion could infuse new energy and motivate women to be in charge of their own destiny,” she concludes.
