Accident on Barberton road claims two lives

Both drivers were seriously injured. It is not clear what led to the collision.

A head-on collision between a bakkie and a minibus taxi on R40 Road between Barberton and Mbombela near Hilltop Pass has claimed two lives on Wednesday night.

The two who are fatal were passengers in a bakkie. Both drivers were seriously injured. It is not clear what led to the collision.

Meanwhile, the Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Pat Ngomane is gravely concerned about a number of fatalities.

Ngomane said road safety is not only the responsibility of law enforcers, road users also need to play a role by prioritizing their own safety and other road users. He insisted that with the right driver attitude and increased alertness on the road while driving, road deaths and injuries could be eliminated.
