113 illegal miners arrested in Evander

All the arrested suspects will appear at the Evander Magistrate's Court on Monday facing various charges.

Police recently conducted an operation, in and around the Evander area wherein 113 illegal miners were arrested.

The operation which was carried out on Friday by members of Crime Prevention and the k9 unit in the cluster (Secunda) concentrated on searching for dangerous weapons and narcotic drugs, closing down of shebeens as well as tracing of undocumented foreigners and wanted suspects.

All the arrested will appear at the Evander Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 11 June 2018 facing various charges.

The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma stated that the operation and subsequently the arrests are a resolve by members of the dignified blue to stamp the authority of the state as provided for in Operation Fiela II. “Our people cannot continue living in fear of the notorious so-called zama zamas (illegal miners) and other criminal elements”, said General Zuma.
