Police looking for suspects for Phola violence

Several houses were torched in the process

More than 40 people were seriously injured when violence erupted at Phola near Ogies on Wednesday.

“A group of people who were marching to the local power station demanding employment were attacked by another group who also torched several houses in the process. The group, believed to be from Ogies, used pangas, axes and other dangerous weapons during the attack,” said Colonel Mtsholi Bhembe

“Some were severely injured and admitted in hospital for their injuries,”he adds.

No arrests have been made yet.

The police are investigating cases of public violence, assault with intent to cause grievious bodily harm (GBH) and arson.
