Social grants to lapse if not withdrawn for three months

South African Social Security Agency would encourages social grant beneficiaries to collect their grants monthly before they lapse.
The grant lapses when beneficiaries fail to withdraw for a period of three months. Beneficiaries must note that the agency will inform them in the form of a letter in advance before the grant lapses.
“Recipients are encouraged to register correct contacts and addresses to avoid missing important communication from SASSA. Beneficiaries have an opportunity to apply for renewal within 90 days from the date of the lapsing. Should they not apply for the renewal of account within a period of suspension, it will be declared unclaimed and a new application would be made.
“To apply for the restoration, applications should include the reason for not responding to request for a review or the intention to suspend and completion of the administrative process that determines how the beneficiary managed financially during the suspension,” reads a statement.
