Accused gets 18 years for the murder of his girlfriend

The court heard how Mthombeni locked Zulu inside the house and set it on fire, leaving her to burn inside.

The Mpumalanga High Court Division sitting at Breyten sentenced a 44-year-old man to 18 years in jail for the murder of his girlfriend.
Robert Mandla Mthombeni murdered 26-year-old Bawinile Zulu at her residence in Carolina in May 2018.
The court heard how Mthombeni locked Zulu inside the house and set it on fire, leaving her to burn inside.

Neighbours rushed to the scene and the victim was rushed to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The suspect was traced and arrested, and finally sentencing on August 20.
