Bus and bakkie collision leaves four dead on the N4

The deceased include three men and one woman and they were all occupants in the bakkie.

A side swipe collision between a light delivery vehicle (bakkie) and a bus that happened around 12h00 on the N4 toll road between Malalane and Hectorspruit but more towards Hectorspruit, has left four people dead.

They include the driver of the bakkie. The deceased perished at the scene due to the impact and there was nothing the paramedics could do to save them.

Four passengers from the bus sustained slight injuries and they were all treated by paramedics at the scene.

The bus was reportedly travelling from Nkomazi to KwaZulu-Natal province and it carried over 70 passengers.

The bakkie was reportedly headed to Johannesburg in Gauteng Province when the crash happened.

The police are investigating four counts of culpable homicide.

Meanwhile, Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC, Ms. Gabisile Shabalala has expressed shock at the incident saying that all road users must use the road with great care in order to reduce needless deadly crashes.

She says with increased compliance to the rules by motorists, more lives will be saved on the road.

” We need to urgently bring an end to the onslaught on our roads and that we can only do if we respect the road rules,” said Shabalala.

She is also sending her heartfelt condolences to the affected families. She has wished the injured a speedy recovery.
