Protest leaves one dead in Langeloop
26-year-old Given Brian Maseko died in hospital after being shot by police during the protest.
The province was riveted by protests in Acornhoek, Fernie and Langeloop after residents took to the streets for service delivery.

26-year-old Given Brian Maseko died in hospital after being shot by police during the protest. According to a police statement, Maseko was one of the protesters who attacked the police who retaliated in defence. The case was handed over to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate for investigation.

Police provincial spokesperson, Brig Leonard Hlathi said in a statement that Maseko’s death was unfortunate. “Police were attacked heavily with objects and responded by defending themselves,” said Hlathi. 22 suspects were arrested and will appear at the Tonga Magistrate’s Court today.
