The DA calls for an urgent investigation by the Emalahleni Municipal Manager into the sale of RDP houses

The Democratic Alliance says the MEC for Human Settlements, Norah Mahlangu must investigate this matter urgently and inform the relevant authorities of this criminal act.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has called on an urgent investigation into the selling of RDP houses in Siyanqoba, Emalahleni Local Municipality.

The DA issued out a media release stating that it has come to the party’s attention that several houses in Siyanqoba have been boldly advertised on social media as being up ‘for sale’.

These are RDP houses that are supposed to be awarded to residents who are genuinely in need of a roof over their heads.

“The DA finds it completely unacceptable that approved residents can place RDP houses on sale when there is an endless number of individuals who need housing desperately still on the waiting list. We
call upon the Municipal Manager, Sizwe Mayisela together with the MEC for Human Settlements, Norah Mahlangu to investigate this matter urgently and inform the relevant authorities of this criminal act.”

“This is clearly indicative that the individuals who are guilty of selling RDP houses which were freely given to them had no genuine need of the houses in the first place. This robs genuine cases of their opportunity to housing and demonstrates the vacuum in the system of Housing Priorities and Needs.”

It further reads that the DA will hold the municipality accountable in requesting it to conduct a RDP house audit and the Municipal Manager needs to provide clear and thorough answers after he conducts the investigation and audit.
