Lowveld Walkers are once again ready for action
The Lowveld Walkers will have a memorial walk in honour of Siphokazi Gladile and Bhekiwe Nkambule at KaBokweni Complex on this Saturday from 05:45 to Zwelisha and back.

The Lowveld Walkers, established by Joseph Mashaba of Matsulu, are back on the road again after five months due to the lockdown regulations.
“No one could have predicted that our lives would have changed as they did. We had to suspend all our planned programmes from March to September, including our long walk for Madiba, which was difficult for everyone,” said Mashaba.

The group of young and old walkers from different parts of the region hit the ground running on October 3. This was immediately after the relaxation of regulations as announced by the minister of cooperative governance and traditional affairs,
Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.
Mashaba said the group still adheres to the lockdown regulations to curb the spread of the virus among members.
“We are back, but things are not the same. We must observe lockdown and Covid-19 regulations. We must walk with masks and have had to scrap our tradition of holding hands in a circle, and the sharing of water bottles.

“We want the people of Mpumalanga to know that we are back and stronger than ever. The team is growing in leaps and bounds, even under the current circumstances. We promise to visit the rural areas that we have been to before.” The team lost two of its members during lockdown. They have planned a memorial walk for them this weekend.

“We will have a memorial walk in honour of Siphokazi Gladile and Bhekiwe Nkambule at KaBokweni Complex on October 17 at 05:45 to Zwelisha and back. Walkers are urged to dress in all black,”
he said. They will have a mental health awareness walk in White River on
October 24 and a cancer awareness one
on October 31 in Pienaar.

“Studies show that many people gained weight during lockdown. We, Lowveld Walkers, are here to help people shake it off, at no cost,” said Mashaba.
