Forty years the perfect opportunity to celebrate with 40 kids

They say life begins at 40. For a local gospel artist, Felicia Ndlela Sompisi, turning 40 means kindness and acts of generosity.
On Friday she brought a smile to 40 needy learners of Mjejane Primary in Mangweni, a school where her mother, Gloria Vilakazi, was a teacher before retiring.

“I used to accompany my mother to that school while she was still working there. The cute, innocent faces always touched my heart every day when I dropped her or picked her up.
They would wave at me and stare at me driving away. In my heart it was like I was walking away with their only hope. I remember very well some walking to school barefoot; some wearing torn trousers and oversized shirts. I would leave the school in tears, wishing I could change their world,” she said.
The learners were presented with goodie packs loaded with school shoes, shirts, trousers, skirts, socks and toiletries. “My birthday is on April 10. My wish was that when I turn 40, 40 cute little smiles would surround me and celebrate with me,” said Sompisi. Turning 40 gave the songstress and communication official for the Department of Social Development an opportunity to fulfil her desire.

Her birthday coincided with the recent release of her second CD, Heart in the Cross, which is about the love God has for mankind. This album followed her Psalm 104 album and two singles, “Thalita Cumi” and “Excellent God”.
Her music is available on digital platforms or physical by order. “I am a grateful to God the Father for another chance to live. I turned 40 so that 40 feet, those tiny souls, may attend school with confidence.
“I want to encourage everyone to help with the little they have. Let us remember where we come from. Education is a societal issue and it takes a village to raise a child; my child is your child, umntfwana ukhuliswa sive,” she said.
She expressed words of gratitude to Bp Alex Mwami of Alex Mwami Ministries and Leonard Ratshitanga of Supremacy Recycling for their contributions in making the day a success. Teachers and parents of Mjejane Primary School also applauded the singer for her kindness.
