Two police officers shot in Tonga

No arrests have been made at this stage.

The police have launched a manhunt following the shooting of two Tonga police officers on Monday night.

The national police spokesperson, Col Brenda Muridili, said the policemen were conducting their routine patrols at Block C in Tonga when they came across a business burglary in process.

“The suspects noticed the police car and then opened fire on the vehicle,” she said.

Muridili said the officers retaliated, but were both shot and rushed to a local hospital for treatment. She said both officers are in stable condition and the police are searching for the shooters.
