“I remember we visited these two areas during our IDP consultative meetings and these communities said, among other things, that they needed multipurpose centres for various community gatherings and purposes. We promised our people that we would act.

“We approached the traditional leadership and asked for land. And as promised, I am happy that we are back here today to witness the opening of these facilities. Now that government has played its role, we would like to appeal to our communities to look after these facilities and protect them. We want to see a situation wherein 20 years from now, these facilities continue to serve our people,” appealed Mkhatshwa.

Since he took over the reigns in March 2018, this municipality has been hard at work launching and unveiling projects. Mkhatshwa said he was happy with the road travelled thus far to bring services closer to the people, at the same time changing their lives for the better.

“I am happy that this ANC-led government always come back and fulfil their promises. I am happy that we have managed to change our people’s lives. During the construction phases of these facilities, our very own local small and emerging businesses benefited, since their companies were given first preference,” he said.

These facilities also boast pension grants pay-points and indoor basketball and netball courts, among others.
