Built it hosts successful tourney

The executive mayor of Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, Cllr Sylvia Nxumalo, led the proceedings and opened the tournament.

Thulamahashe Built it, hosted by the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality in partnership with the South African Schools Football Association (Sasfa), Department of Education and South African Football Association (Safa), held a successful u/13 soccer tournament at the old Thulamahashe Stadium.

A total of 16 primary schools from Thulamahashe and surrounding areas participated in the one-day soccer tournament with the aim of promoting sports development and unearthing talent. The executive mayor of Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, Cllr Sylvia Nxumalo, led the proceedings and opened the tournament.

She spoke of the importance of school sports and urged Built it to stage the tourney every year. She thanked Build it for ensuring that school kids are healthy, both physically and mentally, before writing their final exams.

“I am pleased to note that the tournament was held and controlled by Safa and Sasfa rules. All Covid-19 regulations were adhered to. Both Safa and Sasfa must put more pressure on the Department of Education to revive school sports. I must also indicate that the municipality through the sports, arts, culture and heritage portfolio has programmes including the Executive Mayor’s Cup that encourages social cohesion in our communities,” alluded Nxumalo.

From among the 16 schools that participated in the tournament, Ezrom Primary School emerged victorious and walked away with a trophy, a full soccer kit, gold medals and school bags. Mahlamba-Ndlopfu Primary School were second, followed by Flora-Phophe Primary School in third.
