Family sports day empowers community
The aim of the event was to evoke an active healthy lifestyle within the community.

A family sports day to urge people to take care of their physical health was held at Uthando Lifestyle last Saturday. The aim of the event was to evoke an active healthy lifestyle within the community.
Nosipho Mofokeng, the organiser of the event and a finalist in the Mrs Mpumalanga 2022, said she had realised that community members experience different illnesses related to obesity. “I saw the need to do this event because I realised that people are suffering from obesity-related illnesses. Those are illnesses that are caused by lack of exercise and healthy eating. We need to start being actively physically healthy to promote long lifespan,” she said.
The founder of Celiwe’s Reshape Zone, Celiwe Machava, was leading the exercise routine. According to her, leading a healthy lifestyle is not as expensive as people tend to think.

“I am a fitness instructor and have learned over the years that living a healthy lifestyle is not fancy and expensive. Anyone who is up for a healthy living can do it without being financially strained. You just need to start where you are, do what you can and use what you have by being consistent to get positive results,” she explained.

“The people of Nkomazi are aware of the importance of being physically healthy as I always see them doing all sorts of exercises on their own. They just need to be steered in the right direction and given proper support.” Mofokeng added that people need to make personal choices to lead a healthy lifestyle and commit to them.
