#IMadeMyMark: Party leaders cast their votes

The 2021 Local Government Elections’ two-day special voting period came to an end today, Sunday October 31, at 17:00.

This final day of special votes saw a number of Mpumalanga-based political party leaders and notable politicians casting their votes in wards of the province.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) mayoral candidate in the hotly contested Steve Tshwete Local Municipality, Bosman Grobler, cast his special vote on Saturday in Middelburg.

The Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) provincial leader, Collen Sedibe, deposited his special vote at his home town, Phola, Hazyview.

The former African National Congress Youth League’s (ANCYL) deputy president, Desmond Moela, made his mark at Mdzimba Primary School in Phola, Hazyview on Sunday. Moela said he was hopeful that his organisation, the ANC, will do well in the polls.

“I am hopeful of a clean sweep. We had a very tough campaign this time around but our people still love and believe in the ANC. Yes, there are hiccups here and there in terms of our service delivery machinery, but we are very confident that the incoming crop of councillors will make us proud and work to uplift the standard of living for our people,” said Moela.

“I have just cast my special vote and I am very excited to be part of change. The DA gets things done. I would like to encourage and invite every citizen to come and vote on Monday and be part of history,” said the DA’s mayoral candidate, Grobler.

There were no serious incidents reported in Mpumalanga in the two days of special voting. The only incident reported happened in the Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality where the IEC tent was stolen on Saturday.
