Cop on road to recovery after shoot-out

A police officer, Johnson Mametsi, is said to be recovering well in hospital after being shot on Sunday October 31 by a group of five unknown suspects.

A provincial spokesperson, Brig Selvy Mohlala, said, “Const Mametsi is recovering well, but is still in hospital. He sustained serious injuries since he was shot multiple times by a group of suspects, who also robbed him of his service firearm, cellphone and state car keys.”

The suspects fled the scene on foot. Brig Mohlala said no arrests have been made so far in connection with this incident.

“A case of armed robbery with an additional charge of attempted murder was opened and the police are hard on the suspects’ trail. We appeal to members of the community to work with the police in bringing the suspects to justice,” he appealed.
