Mop up operation underway in Nkomazi
The MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), Busisiwe Shiba, and the head of the department, Sam Ngubane, visited the Nkomazi Local Municipality, where severe thunderstorms destroyed houses and schools in 12 villages.
NKOMAZI – All parts of the province continue to receive torrential rains causing widespread damage to houses, roads, and infrastructure. Houses were left without roofs and others collapsed as a result of the storm.
In the Nkomazi Local Municipality, at least approximately 200 houses and 14 schools were flooded, and assistance is being provided to the affected families. Shiba was accompanied by Ngubane to deliver interim relief to families in Ward 25, Langeloop, which had been the hardest hit village.

Tarpaulins, foam mattresses, blankets, food parcels, and gel stoves were among the items provided as part of the relief effort.
The provincial government is doing everything possible to ensure that affected residents receive adequate assistance as they rebuild their lives.
“We are working with several departments and other state agencies to ensure that more relief is provided to victims,” said Shiba.

Disaster management teams from the province, Nkomazi Local Municipality and Ehlanzeni District Municipality are continuing to assess the situation and are visiting all affected residents within this subregion.
