Man in court for murder of Mbombela police officer and friend
The incident occurred in Barberton on October 16. Law enforcement arrested a suspect on November 16, a month after the murders.
A 42-year-old man is expected to appear on two counts of murder in the Barberton Magistrates’ Court today, November 17.
According to Mpumalanga Hawks spokesperson, Capt Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi, said the man was arrested on Tuesday November 16 by members of the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team based in Mbombela, the provincial tracking team, Barberton Detective Services and the flying squad.

“The team followed information about the whereabouts of a wanted suspect linked to the murder of an off-duty police officer, Sgt Nkosinathi Lucky Ngwenya of Nelspruit Police Station and his friend, Jaftha Mnisi. at Zanni Tavern in Barberton,” said Sekgotodi.
The murders occurred on October 16.
