“We are extremely grateful for the Department of Agriculture’s cooperation, because the centre’s registered 57 clients were still disputing with other departments, particularly social development and water and sanitation. We hope that the garden will aid in the production of more nutritious food for our children. The main issue we have is water, because our garden is so large. We are hoping to be able to have adequate water soon.” The Department of Agriculture said it continues to empower and assist organisations such as Zamokuhle.

Zanele Shabangu, a spokesperson for the department, said, “We are concerned about food security. It is within our department’s mandate to assist centres like Zamokuhle, as this would help the market and economy to thrive.”
