KaBokweni police officer in court for possession of suspected stolen roofing timber

The provincial police commissioner, Lt Gen Semakaleng Manamela, has sent a stern warning to members of the police who involve themselves in criminal activities.
She said drastic steps will be taken against them without any hesitation.

This follows after the arrest of WO Elvis Oswald Chirwa (49) on May 7, on allegations of being in possession of suspected stolen roofing timber planks.
The provincial police spokesperson, Brig Selvy Mohlala, said, “According to the report, SAPS members received information from the public about roofing timber planks that had been stolen during an incident in which a truck carrying these planks was hijacked on May 6 in Phola Park, KaBokweni.

“At about 16:00, the details were followed by a police officer, which led them to a certain house belonging to the arrested warrant officer. The alleged building materials were discovered, and the police believe they were stolen during the hijacking incident.”

Chirwa appeared in the KaBokweni Magistrate’s Court on Monday May 9.
The case was postponed to Friday May 13 for a formal bail application and he was remanded in custody.
