President promises brighter future for farmers in Carolina

The Presidential Imbizo aims to assess economic reconstruction and recovery plans for provinces.

President Cyril Ramaphosa said the government wants to provide assistance to all kinds of farmers in Mpumalanga.

He revealed this during the district development model business engagement at the Presidential Imbizo at the Dutch Reformed Church in Carolina on Friday May 20.

The aim of the imbizo is to engage with the communities within the Gert Sibande District Municipality and the province as a whole.
Many community members were able to voice out the service delivery issues and key areas of their needs.

“We have singled out that agriculture can create a lot of jobs. We have also seen what assistance does for subsistence, commercial and small-scale farmers. We want to help farmers in a variety of ways so they can contribute to our economy,” said Ramaphosa.

He said the government wants to change the mistakes of the past.
“Farmers during the apartheid era were given great assistance by the government, and it stopped when we came into the government. We want to change that and support farmers.”

Continuing with the day’s plans, the president and some ministers proceeded to the Silobela Stadium. Members of the community and stakeholders came out in their numbers to engage with the president.
