Police officer dies in head-on crash on N4 near Sudwala turn off

Debris remains on the N4 near the Sudwala turn-off as police investigate early morning collision.

An off-duty police constable was killed in a head-on collision with a truck on the N4 near the Sudwala turn-off early today, September 14.

According to the spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Zandile Mavuso, the crash occurred when the officer, who was driving a silver hatchback towards Ngodwana, collided head-on with an articulated truck travelling in the direction of Mbombela.

The truck driver sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene before being released. The police officer was declared dead at the scene.

The circumstances surrounding the collision are not yet clear, and an investigation is expected to determine what led to the crash.

N4 reopens following fatal collision

The N4 was temporarily affected by the accident, with the road operating on a stop-and-go basis.

Motorists are urged to approach the area with caution, as debris from the collision remains on the road.
