Young people of the Ehlanzeni District march to the provincial government complex to voice their issues

A memorandum directed to Premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane was handed over.

A group of young people of the Ehlanzeni District marched from the R40 to the provincial government complex on Wednesday June 1, to raise awareness on some issues they are faced with in their communities.

A youth community leader, Tebogo Sekgobela, said, “We believe that the Department of Community Safety and Liaison does not have proper measures put in place to tackle gender-based violence (GBV). We also call for the visibility of police in all the communities and that at least one police officer should adopt a school in their service area.”

“The unemployment rate in Ehlanzeni is currently standing at 70%. There are many young people who are artistic and could make a decent and honest living, but there is no support from the government. We call for the National Youth Development Agency to establish community offices so it will be easy for the young people to access its services.”

The youth had a memorandum that outlined all the issues they had brought forward to Mtshweni-Tsipane.
