Lucky listener wins big with Ligwalagwala FM
Ligwalagwala FM currently boasts a listenership of over 1.3m.
It was a dream come true for the 39-year-old Phumzile Nyathi when she won R40 000 during the Ligwalagwala FM’s Kusile Mzansi Reloaded show, hosted by DJ Madumane, this past Friday.
Ligwalagwala FM ran an SMS competition in which finalists were auto shortlisted and announced every Friday on the breakfast show from the beginning of May. Listeners were encouraged to SMS LFM40K and their names to stand a chance of winning.
Nyathi was one of five finalists who drew letters and digits that could possibly contain the big prize, and hers was the winning digit. They had to choose one letter or digit from the word LFM40 and the money was hidden in the digit 4.

“I wasn’t always a fan of Ligwalagwala FM, but decided to start listening when I heard the station was turning 40 years old this year as I also turn 40 in August. I was even happier to know there was a competition attached to the birthday celebrations.
“Colleagues, friends and family helped me pray to win the competition and celebrate my birthday with the station. My message to other listeners, is to listen to the station, since it teaches us a lot and assists drivers to know when there are emergencies and accidents along the road, we always stay informed,” said an emotional Nyathi.

“The station is nothing without the people who listen to it. As we grow, we see it fitting to grow with the people who make the station what it is. We are overjoyed to be awarding an ordinary listener R40 000 in celebration of the station turning 40,” said Mfanimpela Ndlala, Ligwalagwala FM’s brand specialist. Ndlala said the listeners can still get their share as the celebrations continue throughout the year.
