Humulani Primary School, Thulamahashe, benefit from school uniforms thanks to Buscor

Some of the learners who received school uniforms are from child-headed households.

With the South African Aviation Weather Centre predicting that this year’s winter will be colder than the previous ones, Buscor has stepped in for learners in Humulani Primary School in Thulamahashe who are in need of proper school uniforms and tracksuits.

The learners from destitute family backgrounds were showered with tracksuits by this giant transport company on Thursday June 23 as part of its social responsibility programme.

Buscor’s executive chairperson, Dr Norah Fakude, assured the school that they would support and assist the learners in any way possible. She also committed to formally adopting the school.

“We believe education may help to strengthen the community and eventually help open doors for everyone. The fact that these kids genuinely needed these gifts, makes our donation drive more crucial. Although services may not even reach rural schools because priority is often given to schools who are not in need, as Buscor, we are working to reverse that perception and grow these rural communities by enhancing education and ensuring that all children go to school in proper uniforms. We are confident this will transform these kids’ lives and raise future leaders from this school. We have just identified more pupils who need help, so we will be waiting for the principal to give us sizes so that we can donate more uniforms,” said Fakude.

“We are adopting this school and pledge to make immediate contributions to education. We will work closely with the school to identify outstanding students so that we can provide bursaries for them to continue their education after matriculation. We also have a Buscor Development Programme through which we train young people in engineering and IT. After they finish high school, we will enroll some of these students in our Driver Development Programme, which will prepare them for careers as professional drivers and help them find jobs more quickly,” concluded Fakude.
