Mzinti charity organisation aims to help the disadvantage

The Lekelela Community Organisation started a feeding scheme in the Mzinti community for local disadvantaged residents.

Seeing an increase in the numbers of disadvantaged, orphaned and abandoned children in his community, Peace Shongwe of Mzinti started an organisation to assist vulnerable families. The Lekelela Community Organisation was established in 2019 with the aim of helping the disadvantaged materially with food and clothes, and academically.

Shongwe said he noticed many people in his community facing poverty, and saw the need to make a difference in any way possible. He uses his own money to help the needy.

“I started the organisation because I realised I have the heart for the poor who need food, clothes and shelter. I do not have funds, so I use my money, but I had the privilege of meeting organisations that do have sponsors like Lady Wisdom,” he said.

The organisation has lately been focusing on schoolchildren to whom it donated school shoes and uniforms, such as learners of Slindokuhle Special School and Tikhuni Secondary School earlier this year.

The organisation started a feeding scheme. Local disadvantage kids in Mzinti receive a meal every Saturday at the Emmanuel Full Gospel Church. The first session took place on Saturday July 9 and 45 children attended.
