IN PHOTOS: An informative Veld Fires Awareness campaign for Belfast farmers

Mpumalanga Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs held this event to educate the farmers.

The Mpumalanga Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs’ disaster management unit, together with Working on Fire, held a veld fires awareness campaign in Siyathuthuka Community Hall in Belfast, Emakhazeni Local Municipality last week.

Department spokesperson Zanele Shabangu said the aim is to raise awareness on the dangers of veld fires during this season.

“They shared tips on how best to prevent veld fires or any damage they may cause on their properties, or to crops and livestock.”

Fire beaters were also handed over to farmers, so that they will be able to manage runaway fires accordingly.
