A state vehicle caught fire on the R40 near Penryn; no injuries were reported, and the cause is under investigation.

A state vehicle caught fire on the R40 near the Penryn intersection in Mbombela today, January 27.

According to Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison spokesperson Moeti Mmusi, the cause of the fire is currently unknown, but no injuries were reported. “The fire has been extinguished. The road is not closed, but the lane towards White River is currently affected. Motorists are urged not to cause further traffic congestion by stopping in the middle of the road to take pictures and videos,” Mmusi said.

He added that all emergency personnel are on site, and recovery operations to clear the scene are set to begin. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
