SANParks wilderness trail guide arrested in Kruger Park

The suspect will be expected to undergo a disciplinary hearing, since all SANParks staff have been cautioned against being involved in any criminal activities.

A SANParks wilderness trail guide has been arrested for the possession of an illegal hunting rifle near the Skukuza Rest Camp in the Kruger National Park (KNP).

According to SANParks’ spokesperson, Isaac Phaahla, the suspect was arrested earlier today, September 18, in an intelligence-driven operation led by the SANParks Environmental Investigative Unit and the SAPS’s Tactical Response Team.

“While investigations are ongoing, he will also face an internal disciplinary hearing as an employee. While respecting the fact that the employee must be presumed innocent until found guilty, SANParks draws attention to the fact that it always cautions its employees against involving themselves in criminal acts, as the organisation applies a no-nonsense policy,” said Phaahla.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court on September 19 facing charges of possession of an illegal hunting rifle.
