Mpumalanga Department of Education hosts programme to uplift matrics

The programme is intended to assist Grade 12s in preparation for the final examinations.

The Mpumalanga Department of Education hosted a mathematics, science and technology academy last push programme at Witbank High School in eMalahleni.

This programme started on Monday October 2 and will proceed until Friday October 7. The education spokesperson, Jasper Zwane, said this programme is designed to assist matrics from schools who had achieved around a 30% pass rate in the June exams.

“It intends to uplift learner performance in the mathematics, science and technology streams to 50% and above. Pupils are being taught by teachers who have performed well in their National Senior Certificate examinations pass rate in the past three years. The programme is well attended and learners are responding positively.”

Zwane said the department is optimistic that this will add impetus in the quest to improve the overall results of the province. The final examinations for Grade 12s will commence on October 31.
