Calcutta policing precinct murder raises death toll to 39
A man was shot and later died in a Mkhuhlu hospital on Saturday morning.
Calcutta police have arrested four suspects, aged between 26 and 33, following the death of a man after he was allegedly attacked in Somerset Trust on Saturday, August 8, at about 00:20.
According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo, Calcutta SAPS received reports that an individual had been assaulted by community members, and was taken to Matikwana Hospital in Mkhuhlu.

Masondo said police were dispatched to the hospital, and were directed to the lifeless body of a man on a bed. He confirmed that the deceased had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigations led to the arrest of the four suspects on the same day. They are expected to appear in the Mkhuhlu Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, August 11.

“More suspects may be arrested pending further investigations,” Masondo added.
Community members, who asked not to be named for fear of retaliation, told Lowveld Media that the incident happened at the Maqhwalibavhu Tavern.
This incident brings to 39 the number of gun murders in the Calcutta policing precinct since the beginning of the year.
